Julie Schonfeld, MPH

Founder, Insight Eldercare

For over 25 years, Julie Schonfeld has counseled and supported individuals and their loved ones through all aspects of the life cycle, especially life’s challenges including aging, illness and disability. She began her career as the Spiritual Leader of a historic New York congregation, The SAJ on West 86th Street in Manhattan. She went on to oversee a large network of community leaders, helping professionals, and affiliated institutions. Julie has deep expertise in advocating for individuals and ensuring that institutions and organizations live up to their mission and provide quality, trustworthy care and services.

Passionate about helping people address the challenges of health and aging, Julie earned an MPH from the CUNY School of Public Health and Health Policy. Among other honors Julie was named by Secretary Xavier Becerra of the United States Department of Health and Human Services in 2023 as one of 15 American Women of Faith on the Frontlines in recognition of her work.

She serves on both the White Plains Hospital Ethics Committee and Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Board of Visitors of McLean Hospital in Massachusetts which is affiliated with Mass General Brigham and Harvard Medical School. She has also served on the IRB of Einstein Medical College/Montefiore Hospital. She received her BA from Yale University and was ordained and awarded an honorary doctorate by the Jewish Theological Seminary.

  • Work with families regarding the availability of government programs, such as Medicaid, that can help pay for long-term home care and nursing home care.

  • Accompany clients to visits with physicians and other helping professionals
  • Follow up on healthcare provider recommendations for equipment, services or therapies, and ensure that they are implemented
  • Provide ongoing updates to the “team” of loved ones and ensure that the flow of information and effective communication are consistently maintained

  • Financial management and bill paying services to ensure that expenses including rent, utilities, and fees to providers and vendors are paid in a timely manner
